Methanol poisonings increase in the country

Until Monday (13), 213 reports of methanol poisoning were registered across the country. According to the Ministry of Health, there are 32 confirmed cases and 181 under investigation. 320 suspicions have already been discarded.

São Paulo concentrates the majority of cases. There are 28 confirmed notifications across the state and 100 under investigation. Next comes Paraná, with three patients, and Rio Grande do Sul, with one patient.

Suspicions of poisoning are also investigated in other states. Pernambuco (43), Espírito Santo (9), Rio Grande do Sul (6), Rio de Janeiro (5), Mato Grosso do Sul (4), Piauí (4), Goiás (3), Maranhão (2), Alagoas (2), Minas Gerais (1), Paraná (1), Rondônia (1).

Five people died after consuming drinks contaminated with methanol in São Paulo. Another nine suspicious deaths remain under investigation: 3 in São Paulo and Pernambuco and 1 in Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul and Ceará.
