Technology: AWS failure exposes fragility of global internet
A major outage in Amazon Web Services (AWS) took hundreds of websites and applications offline. The collapse of the company’s main data center in Virginia affected banks (Lloyds, Halifax, Bank of Scotland), payment platforms (Venmo, Coinbase), social networks (Snapchat) and even games like Roblox and Fortnite.
AWS attributed the failure to an internal DNS error, a mechanism that directs online traffic.
