The US has been pressuring Brazil for access to rare earths, says Alckmin

The acting president and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), stated that the United States has shown growing interest in access to rare earths and other strategic Brazilian minerals, considered fundamental for the high-technology industry.

“The discussion is already part of the economic dialogue between the two countries. Both seek to expand cooperation in areas of energy, innovation and sustainability”, said Alckmin, in an interview shown on the night of this Tuesday, 21st, on Record News.

For the acting president, negotiations with the US have “progressed well”

According to the acting president, the country can combine mineral potential with leadership in clean energy to attract new international investments and expand cooperation with the United States. “Brazil has abundant energy and clean, renewable energy, wind, solar, hydroelectric. There is a huge space for good understanding with the United States”, he stated.

Alckmin also related the issue of energy to the global environmental agenda, highlighting that the country is capable of taking on a leading role in the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), one of the main alternatives to fossil kerosene. “Only Brazil, India and the United States have the scale to produce sustainable aviation fuel.”

The United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will be held in Belém, in November, represents “an avenue of investment opportunities for Brazil” to consolidate its position in the green economy, according to the acting president.
