Argentina is dying, says Trump when defending funding for the country
Argentina today formalized a US$20 billion (R$108.7 billion) financing line with the USA. The announcement of a swap (currency exchange agreement) with the Trump administration comes amid a devaluation of the Argentine peso and adds to other measures by the US Treasury in support of Milei before the October 26 elections.
Trump also promised Milei another $20 billion in public and private funds. The condition for aid is that he obtains a good electoral result.
Elections
Last week, Trump and Milei had an official lunch in Washington. At the time, the American declared: “If he (Milei) loses the elections, we will not be generous with Argentina.”
In next Sunday’s elections, Milei will try to increase his scarce legislative support. However, there is no prospect of achieving a majority, not even the main minority.
Milei needs her party to get more seats. This would pave the way for the governability necessary to deepen its economic reform agenda.
