Lula returns to Brazil and should nominate STF minister
President Lula met this Sunday, in Malaysia, with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and announced that the two decided that negotiations on tariffs imposed on Brazilian products must ‘begin immediately’. Trump, however, declared that he thinks the tariffs are fair, but proposed to ‘work on agreements’. New rounds of negotiations should take place this week.
Lula returns from his trip to Asia on Tuesday and there is also the expectation that he will nominate the replacement for minister Luís Roberto Barroso, who left the STF after bringing forward his retirement. Before leaving for Asia, the president indicated that he would make the nomination upon his return and, according to allies, the favorite for the position is the Union’s attorney general, minister Jorge Messias.
On Wednesday, the president swears in, at the Palácio do Planalto, Guilherme Boulos as minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency.
