‘You can hear debris falling’, reports young woman trapped in resort in Jamaica
An American couple staying at Sandals Negril reports that at 4pm (6pm GMT) guests will be isolated in their rooms. “We will lose Wi-Fi and phone signal, but Apple has satellite signal for emergencies,” Wes Carr said on Facebook.
“This will be the last update until the storm passes,” Wes said. In a post made yesterday, he said that, so far, he had “cell phone signal, weather channel, lots of food and amenities”.
Guests were evacuated to the party room in Montego Bay, an internet user reported on social media. “The hotel staff knocked on our door asking us to evacuate to the party room. It seems safer, since there are no windows and we are with family,” he said in a post on his TikTok.
“The storm is strong and noisy, but being in a room with other people helps reduce the noise,” said the young woman. According to her, the resort charged an emergency fee of US$180 (about R$964.58) per person per day for guests who needed to stay due to the storm.
The winds are very strong, it looks like a train is passing by. It’s intensifying and we can hear debris falling.
