Store fire leaves dead and injured in the city of Hermosillo, Mexico
A fire at a discount store left at least 23 people dead and another 12 injured in the city of Hermosillo, Mexico.
What happened
- Fire occurred yesterday during the celebration of the Day of the Dead in Mexico. The cause of the fire is still unknown. The head of the city’s Fire Department said it was still being investigated whether there was an explosion at the site.
- Most deaths may have been caused by inhalation of toxic gases. The information was released by the state attorney general, Gustavo Salas, citing the medical-legal service.
- The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, offered condolences to the families of the victims. “My deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives,” Claudia wrote in X.
- Children are among the victims. According to local press, at least seven children died in the fire.
