US begins training for action against cartels in Mexico, says TV

The mission would involve soldiers from the Joint Special Operations Command and CIA agents. The operation, according to TV, would include drones to attack drug laboratories and cartel leaders, following US rules of war and security.

The Trump administration intends to keep the mission secret if it is approved. Even though it is more intense, the government will maintain the secrecy of the operation, unlike the recent attacks on drug boats in the Caribbean and Pacific, which are publicly disclosed.

A US military operation in Mexico would be a major escalation in Trump’s anti-drug policy. He considered drug cartels terrorist organizations because of the opioid crisis, particularly fentanyl, which enters the country through Mexico.

Mexico seeks meeting with US after attacks in Pacific

Mexican government said it wants to meet with US officials. Demonstration took place on Thursday, following an attack on a boat in the Pacific, allegedly loaded with drugs. On Wednesday, the American Army attacked a vessel that, according to them, was trafficking drugs. A similar attack on October 27 killed 14 people; the Mexican Navy is still looking for a survivor about 830 km from Acapulco.

“Today, the Navy meets with a counterpart from the (American) Coast Guard,” said the president of Mexico. At a press conference, Claudia Sheinbaum reported that she was trying to schedule a meeting with the Southern Command and also with the US State Department.
