Moraes indicates ‘lack of relevance’ in Bolsonaro’s medical evaluation request
Federal Supreme Court (STF) minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered the withdrawal of a request made by the Brasília Penitentiary Administration Secretariat in the coup plot process. The ministry requested a medical evaluation of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to find out whether he would be able to serve his sentence at the Papuda Penitentiary, in Brasília.
In an order signed on Wednesday, the 5th, Moraes justified the decision with the “absence of relevance” of the request with criminal action 2668, referring to the attempted coup d’état after the 2022 elections. “Considering the lack of relevance, STF petition nº 158.408/2025 should be removed from the file”, he wrote.
As shown by the Estadãothe secretary of penitentiary administration, Wenderson Souza e Teles, requests in the text the “evaluation of his clinical condition and its compatibility with the medical and nutritional assistance available in prison establishments” in Brasília.

He states that the evaluation is important because Bolsonaro has already undergone abdominal surgery and needed in-person medical evaluations throughout his house arrest. The former president had to go to a hospital recently because he had bouts of hiccups and reflux and was being treated for skin cancer.
On Friday, the 7th, the First Panel of the Supreme Court will begin judging the motions for clarification presented by the defense of the former president and the other seven defendants from the central core of the coup plot. If they are denied, there is still one more possibility of appeals before the conviction becomes final (becomes final) and the sentence can begin to be executed.
It is also after the judgment of the appeals that Moraes, rapporteur of the process, will define where this sentence will be served. Most likely, the former president will be sent to a cell at the Federal Police Superintendence in Brasília. If a serious health condition is found, he may be kept under house arrest.
Bolsonaro was sentenced by the Court to 27 years and three months in prison under an initial closed regime for leading the attempted coup d’état after the 2022 elections. He has been under house arrest since August, for failing to comply with precautionary measures in another case.
