US designates Venezuelan group as terrorists

Donald Trump’s government announced that it will designate a Venezuelan criminal group as terrorist. Washington also signaled that it will consider Nicolas Maduro, the country’s president, as the head of the cartel in question. The measure taken this Sunday was received by diplomats in the region as another element in the construction of a narrative to legitimize an attack against Venezuela.

Announcement was made on social media. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that he will “designate the Cartel de los Soles as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).”
