Ramagem would have fled through Roraima towards Guyana or Venezuela, points out PF

The Federal Police set up a line of investigation that indicates that federal deputy Alexandre Ramagem (PL-RJ) may have left Brazil clandestinely in September, a period in which the STF was judging the central nucleus of the 2022 coup d’état attempt.

According to an investigation confirmed by the PF, TV Globothe parliamentarian traveled by plane to Boa Vista (RR) and, from there, continued by land to the northern border, possibly heading to Venezuela or Guyana, using a rented car.

The suspicion gained strength after internal records showed that Ramagem did not inform the Chamber of Deputies of any international travel, which is mandatory for parliamentarians with judicial restrictions.

The irregular departure occurred in the same month that the 1st Panel of the Supreme Court analyzed his case and sentenced him to 16 years, 1 month and 15 days in prison for the crimes of criminal organization, violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law and attempted coup.

Investigations indicate that Ramagem, then director of Abin in the Bolsonaro government, used the structure of the intelligence agency to monitor political opponents and reinforce attacks on the electoral system that supported the former president’s strategy to remain in office.

The sentence prohibited the deputy from leaving the country and ordered the surrender of his passport, in addition to other precautionary measures.

The PF asked Minister Alexandre de Moraes to prevent Ramagem from being arrested due to signs of escape. The request had already been accepted even before PSOL formally demanded the measure, on Wednesday (19), according to the broadcaster’s findings.

The party argued that the congressman’s evasion confirms the risk that other convicts from the coup group will adopt a similar strategy and also asked for measures to locate the congressman abroad, if his presence outside the country is confirmed.

Ramagem’s movements in recent days reinforced the thesis that he was out of Brazil. An internal Chamber document, revealed by TV Globoshows that the deputy requested a phone with international roaming on Tuesday (18) to participate remotely in the vote on the Antifaction PL.

According to the rules of the House, however, the exercise of the mandate cannot occur from abroad. Despite this, records show that he participated in votes while presenting medical certificates that kept him away from parliamentary activities between September and December.

The Chamber informed that there is no authorized official mission, nor travel communication, and that it is unaware of any travel by the parliamentarian. The absence of official justifications, combined with the use of international roaming and the suspicious route recorded by the PF, accelerated Moraes’ decision to order the arrest.

With the order issued, the PF is now concentrating its efforts on locating the deputy and is considering contacting foreign authorities to guarantee his return to the country, if Ramagem is actually abroad.
