Carlos Bolsonaro cries during a tribute at Alesp and says his father suffers ‘inhumanity’
Rio de Janeiro councilor Carlos Bolsonaro (PL) cried when he was honored at the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp) on the night of this Friday, 5th. Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) son ’02’ became emotional during the showing of a video that recalled the episode of the stabbing of his father during the 2018 elections.
“I wanted to name them one by one, but my head is a bit lost”, he said. “I wanted you to understand my sad face. I thank you because it’s a way to let off steam and sleep more peacefully”, he continued.
My brother Flávio will raise the flag of our father’s ideals, says Eduardo Bolsonaro
US deputy highlights his brother’s courage and calls for conservatives to unite to face what he calls a “regime of exception” in Brazil
Flávio Bolsonaro’s choice is a more than predictable move by the family, says Lindbergh
“They know that it is practically impossible to defeat Lula, but they want to maintain the opposition’s leading role for the future”, declared the deputy
Carlos said that since Bolsonaro was under house arrest, his father asked him to bring “good energy from abroad”. “I see hundreds of people here emanating good things so that I can take them to him”, he declared.
“In the last few days I was able to visit my father once in prison. He is in a small room measuring four square meters where they put a key in the door so that he cannot even go out into the corridor. How much inhumanity they are doing to him”, he stated.
Carlos did not mention the announcement made by his brother and senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), who said he was chosen by his father to run for President of the Republic in 2026. Flávio was in São Paulo, but did not participate in the tribute.
In an interview with the portal MetropolisesFlávio tried to reassure the market, which reacted badly to the nomination, saying that Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP) supported his candidacy and that he also has the support of his family.
“He (Bolsonaro) has total confidence, his blood, the same principles. And now it’s time for me to talk to more people so that everyone understands that, in fact, it is the project that will be victorious in 2026”, stated the pre-candidate.
At Alesp, Bolsonaro deputies said on the microphone that although the night was festive, the happiness was not complete due to the absences of Bolsonaro, who is serving a 27-year prison sentence for an attempted coup, and federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), self-exiled in the United States.
They also acknowledged that the gallery was not as full as it could have been, but argued that several supporters were unable to enter.
Carlos and federal deputy Mário Frias (PL-SP) were honored with the Collar of Honor for Legislative Merit. The tribute, proposed by state deputy Paulo Mansur (PL), is aimed at those who “have acted in a way that contributes to the social, cultural and economic development” of the State.
Carlos has a mandate in Rio de Janeiro and will run for the Senate for Santa Catarina in 2026. To justify the tribute in São Paulo, Mansur stated that the former president’s son “02” “is from all over Brazil”.
Mário Frias celebrated Flávio’s nomination as a candidate. “It’s good news. Union yes, let’s ask for unity, as long as it’s around Jair Bolsonaro”, he stated. Centrão parties, who demonstrated throughout the day distrust that the nomination is for real, defend that the group unites in support of the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).
Representative Lucas Bove (PL) wore a cap with the phrase “Bolsonaro 2026” and said that “to the sadness of the left, there will be Bolsonaro in the ballot box, yes”.
Before the event began, around 20 students occupied the corridors of Alesp and held a demonstration shouting orders against the amnesty for Bolsonaro and the others convicted of the coup plot.
They were separated by a glass door from the event participants, who tore down the posters against the former president that were passed through the crack in the door or when the passage opened for a guest to enter.
