Who is Gustavo Feliciano, who takes over the Ministry of Tourism this Tuesday (23)?
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) appointed, on Friday (19), Gustavo Feliciano as the new Minister of Tourism, replacing federal deputy Celso Sabino (União-PA). The inauguration ceremony will take place this Tuesday (23).
The replacement comes after Sabino’s removal, requested by União Brasil, the party to which Lula gave up his ministerial chair in exchange for support. The former minister was removed from his position after being expelled from the party, after insisting on remaining in his position despite being asked to leave the department.

A political ally and personal friend of the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), Feliciano’s choice symbolizes both a rapprochement between the government and União Brasil and a nod to Motta, with whom Lula has had friction during the processing of projects of interest to the government.
Motta even publicly celebrated his ally’s appointment, highlighting that he feels “welcomed” by the appointment and recognizing that Feliciano will do a good job in the department.
Son of deputy Damião Feliciano (União-PB) and the vice-governor of Paraíba, Lígia Feliciano, Gustavo already worked closely with the issue in 2018, when he was the state’s Secretary of Tourism and Economic Development during the government of João Azevêdo (PSB).
After accepting the president’s invitation to take on the role, Feliciano reaffirmed his commitment to the government and the new position. “I will do everything I can to drive tourism in the country, knowing the size of the challenge. There will be no lack of dedication, effort, work and sweat for you and your government”, he highlighted.
