Bolsonaro should be released from hospital on Thursday, says medical team
Former president Jair Bolsonaro will be discharged from Hospital DF Star on Thursday (1). Bolsonaro underwent surgery and other various procedures in recent days to reverse his hiccups. This Thursday (31), reinforcement was performed via endoscopy.
According to the former president’s medical team, it is still uncertain whether the nerve block that caused Bolsonaro’s hiccups had the expected result. The expectation is that the treatment can be carried out with medication and physiotherapy.

With hypertension, Bolsonaro will spend New Year’s Eve in a hospital in Brasília
“This hospitalization was requested so that he could have the hernia surgery and be discharged in a safe condition. So tomorrow he completes seven days of this surgery and everything is going well from a post-operative point of view, so we are maintaining this discharge forecast for tomorrow”, Birolini told journalists at the door of the DF Star hospital, in Brasília.
The medical team said they will come by tomorrow morning for a routine visit and that Bolsonaro’s discharge has already been scheduled. This would only change in the event of any new complications. The timing of the former president’s removal, however, will depend on the courts.
Birolini and Caiado also said that the former president’s hiccups did not stop even with a procedure to block the phrenic nerve. The hypothesis is that the spasms are caused by the nervous system.
Doctors stated that the former president’s mood worsens significantly during bouts of hiccups and that he himself asked to take antidepressants.
“The president himself asked to use some antidepressant medication. So, it was introduced, and we hope that this treatment will start to have some effect in a few days,” said Birolini.
They also stated that Bolsonaro requires care because he has sleep apnea and needs to wear a special mask to sleep better, which can increase the risk of falls. According to them, he has been more committed to a self-care routine to avoid new bouts of hiccups and reflux.
Doctors have always stated that they make recommendations for constant care for the former president and his staff, but that how this will be carried out depends on the courts.
