Lula announces national network of smart hospitals and defends investments in SUS

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated, this Wednesday (7), that SUS structuring projects cannot continue to be blocked under the argument of lack of resources.

The declaration was made during a ceremony at Palácio do Planalto, where the creation of a national network of hospitals with smart services from the Unified Health System was announced.

“We spent all this time without the CPMF (Provisional Contribution on Financial Transactions), which could have helped the health of this country. And we need to be clear about one thing: when defining a project, we cannot accept hearing that ‘there’s no money’ or ‘it can’t be done'”, stated the president.

During the event, Lula recalled the fall he suffered in October 2024 and criticized the three-hour delay in being transported to São Paulo due to the lack of a plane.

“At the airport (in São Paulo), the medical team had four people, there were two doctors crying thinking that I might have gone into a coma on the plane. With this announcement (of the creation of hospitals), I hope that we also put something intelligent here in Brasília”, he said.

Furthermore, the New Development Bank, known as Banco dos Brics, approved financing of R$1.7 billion for the implementation of the Technological Institute of Intelligent Medicine (ITMI), which will operate at Hospital das Clínicas in São Paulo. ITMI will serve patients with the help of artificial intelligence and will focus on high-precision medicine.

With the new network, the Ministry of Health believes that it will be possible to reduce the waiting time for emergency care by up to five times.
