Moraes authorizes Paulo Sérgio Nogueira to attend college to reduce his sentence
The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes authorized this Wednesday, 7th, that the former Minister of Defense Paulo Sérgio Nogueira enroll in a higher education course while serving a 19-year prison sentence for an attempted coup d’état. The decision allows Nogueira to study Hospital Administration in distance learning (EAD).
In the order, Moraes cites article 126 of the Criminal Execution Law, which provides for the possibility of remission of the sentence through study. Redemption is a mechanism that authorizes the reduction of part of the prison time upon proof of attendance and achievement in educational activities by convicts in a closed or semi-open regime.
