Bolsonaro asks Moraes for permission to receive religious assistance at the PF
Former president Jair Bolsonaro’s defense asked minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), for authorization to receive regular religious assistance while he remains in the custody of the Federal Police. Bolsonaro was sentenced by the STF to 27 years and three months in prison for attempted coup d’état.
The request lists two names recommended for spiritual accompaniment: Bishop Robson Lemos Rodovalho, founder of the Sara Nossa Terra church, and pastor Thiago de Araújo Macieira Manzoni. The defense emphasizes that the service would be individual, supervised and without interference in the unit’s routine or risk to safety.

Sentenced to 27 years and 3 months, former president wants to participate in the redemption program provided for in the Criminal Execution Law
In the petition, the defense maintains that religious freedom is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution and the Criminal Execution Law, including for people deprived of liberty. Lawyers claim that Bolsonaro received weekly spiritual support during the period he was under house arrest, with no incidents or damage to public order recorded.
“Religious freedom constitutes a fundamental right guaranteed to all citizens, including those in state custody”, argues the defense in the request sent to the STF.
According to lawyers, the transfer of the former president to the Federal Police Superintendence made it impossible to continue religious support, due to the restrictions inherent to the custody regime. Therefore, Moraes was asked to authorize the religious people to enter the site, on dates and times to be defined together with the unit’s administration.
