Marina Silva says she can leave the Senate for SP and evaluates party proposals

The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, stated that she could run for a seat in the Senate for the state of São Paulo and said she had conversations with parties to which she was already affiliated. In an interview with RedeTV!, this Thursday, the 29th, the minister also declared that she still does not know whether she will continue in the position.

Marina stated that she is evaluating, together with allies, the possibility of leaving Rede Sustentabilidade. According to her, there are ongoing dialogues with parties she has already worked with, such as the Workers’ Party (PT), the Socialism and Freedom Party (PSOL), the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) and the Green Party (PV), among others, but she highlighted that she is still analyzing the proposals received.

Elections: PT demands efforts from activists, amid pressure for Haddad’s candidacy

The demand adds to what some PT members have said publicly and privately for their main members to be candidates this year

“I see myself in the design of the construction for the Senate. São Paulo helped save my biological life and put me back on the political scene in an incredible way, when I didn’t even want to be a candidate anymore. And now, I’m willing to do this construction”, she told the broadcaster.

Opportunity with security!

The minister praised the work of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and said she hoped for his re-election, but said she did not know whether she would remain at the head of the department if that happened. “The president will be very comfortable in being able to make his choice of who will be Minister of the Environment”, he declared.

When commenting on her career in office, Marina stated that she noticed a significant change, especially within the government. According to her, today there is a transversal policy focused on environmental issues, something that, for a long time, she defended practically alone.

Minister received an ovation at COP30

Marina stated that she felt recognized when she became emotional after a speech at the United Nations Climate Summit (COP30). According to the minister, the public’s reaction represented recognition of work built over decades.

“This, for me, was recognition of a work, of a legacy that comes from Chico Mendes to the environmental movement”, he stated.

Despite this, the minister warned of the negative impacts of international conflicts on the socio-environmental agenda and cited China as an example in the energy transition.

“Wars have undermined the advances that were being achieved. China started to invest heavily in batteries, electric cars, wind energy and photovoltaic cells and became the largest supplier of technology for the energy transition on the planet”, he added.
