Cláudio Castro will meet with PL president and Flávio to decide political future
Governor Cláudio Castro (PL) said upon arriving for the second day of Special Group parades in Marquês de Sapucaí that he will meet with the party president, Altineu Cortes, and senator Flávio Bolsonaro to decide his political future. Among the open questions are whether he will remain in office until the end of the year and the date of his resignation, if he decides to run for the Senate.
— Firstly, I need to have a guarantee that whoever will take my place is a person capable of managing a state with a budget deficit of R$19 billion this year.
Castro reiterated that the secretary of the Civil House, Nicola Miccione, is his preferred name to take his place. But he reiterated that Alerj’s decision, which will make the choice through an indirect election, is sovereign. The indirect process will take place because the state does not have a deputy. Elected with Castro, vice Thiago Pampolha resigned after being appointed advisor to the State Court of Auditors (TCE).

Regarding the Acadêmicos de Niterói parade, which honored President Lula, Castro preferred not to comment:
— In these institutional boxes we spend more time receiving people than watching parades. I didn’t even see Niterói like other schools — said the governor of Rio.
When asked why he didn’t go down to the track to welcome the schools alongside President Lula and Mayor Eduardo Paes, Castro argued:
— I was in a meeting. I can come down or not.
Despite being in opposition, city hall and state reached an agreement on Sunday. Half of the state box in sector 9 was given to Riotur to receive guests from the city hall. The city hall box was given over to Lula’s guests. This Monday, the original provision was resumed.
Castro also considers that this year’s edition is the best in the history of the state’s carnival in terms of results for the economy of Rio de Janeiro.
— It’s historic. We surpassed 91 percent hotel occupancy. The results are also very good, for example in Cabo Frio. Galeão alone recorded almost 600 thousand landings during this period.
