Janja used a FAB plane on an agenda that included a pro-Lula school, says website

First Lady Janja da Silva used a Brazilian Air Force (FAB) aircraft, on October 6, to fulfill commitments in Rio de Janeiro that included a visit to the Acadêmicos de Niterói shed, a school that honored President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the 2026 Carnival. The information was published by Metropolises.

On the same trip were ministers Anielle Franco, of Racial Equality, and Luciana Santos, of Science and Technology. They accompanied Janja both on the trip to the shed and at an official environmental event.

The flight was requested by the Ministry of Science and Technology. In the formal request sent to the FAB, the ministry only cited participation in the launch of the 2027 Oceans Decade Conference. The document makes no mention of the visit to the samba school. The first lady participated in the conference as “special COP envoy”.

Janja boarded with six advisors, including a photographer. The return to Brasília took place on the same day, also on a FAB aircraft, at around 5:10 pm.

The use of the plane is not considered irregular by the decree that regulates the air transport of authorities. The rule, signed in 2020 by then-president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), allows boarding when state ministers are on the flight. The text requires the authority to record the reason for the trip, dates, times and list of companions.

The decree also establishes priority criteria for the use of FAB aircraft: medical emergencies, security situations and, finally, service commitments. It also provides for sharing the aircraft when there are close trips to the same destination.

Janja’s visit to Acadêmicos de Niterói occurred months before the school paraded in Sapucaí with a plot in honor of Lula.

The parade prompted a reaction from opposition parties. Part of the allegations were based on the use of public money sent by the school through Embratur and the use, by the first lady, of government structures to organize the participation of state ministers in the tribute.
