Esperidião Amin reaffirms his candidacy for the Senate for SC, even with Carlos and De Toni
Senator Esperidião Amin (PP-SC) reaffirmed his pre-candidacy for re-election after being passed over from the list of Santa Catarina governor Jorginho Mello (PL). During a meeting between the president, national president Valdemar Costa Neto and senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) in Brasília this Wednesday, the nominations of Rio de Janeiro councilor Carlos Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) and federal deputy Caroline de Toni (PL-SC) for the Senate were defined.
The parliamentarian responded to the statement in a note released later this afternoon. “With great humility, with great determination and with respect to this decision, I want to say: I belong to Santa Catarina, therefore, I am a pre-candidate for Senator of Santa Catarina, for Santa Catarina and for Santa Catarina, to help Brazil become more and more aware of and adopt the model of our people and with this our country will improve”, he said in the statement.

In the text, he also said he “respects” the decisions of the parties, the Progressive Union federation and “also those who may participate in a composition, but no definitive steps have been taken so far”. On social media, Carol also published a video announcing her pre-candidacy.
— We finally had this confirmation and public guarantee from pre-candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, in a large meeting that we also had with more than a hundred PL deputies present, with the president of the PL and governor Jorginho Mello, all confirming this intention. I am very relieved to have finally ended this whole situation and be able to be a pre-candidate to represent Santa Catarina here in Congress — she said in the recording.
Understand the dispute in SC
The agreement to define the PL nominations was signed after Carol threatened to leave the PL at the beginning of this month, after receiving a signal from Valdemar that the priority would be to keep Amin on the ticket in the name of an alliance signed with Progressistas. Overlooked by the party’s leadership, the deputy even reported having received proposals from at least six parties, namely Novo, PSD, MDB, Avante, Podemos and PRD. The deputy’s stay and her participation in Jorginho’s composition, however, were publicly defended by the governor and her allies, such as former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro (PL).
The preference now given to Carol and the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), in turn, sidelines Amin. In parallel, the senator has been considered in SC for the construction of an opposition ticket to Jorginho, headed by the mayor of Chapecó, João Rodrigues (PSD). The composition also tends to have the support of the MDB, which had the expectation of being able to win the vice position, but was passed over for the nomination of the mayor of Joinville, Adriano Silva (Novo).
Earlier, the choice of Carol and Carlos was also reaffirmed by Flávio Bolsonaro, pre-candidate for Planalto, in a press conference after visiting his father, imprisoned in Papudinha. At the time, he stated that he also spoke with Amin before.

The definition also coincides with the moment in which he works to build strong platforms in the states. Yesterday, the parliamentarian announced that the majority ticket in Rio this year will be headed by the licensed state deputy and secretary of Cities, Douglas Ruas, nominated to run for government, and the former mayor of Nova Iguaçu Rogério Lisboa (PP) as vice president. The vacancies for the Senate will go to the current governor, Cláudio Castro (PL), and the mayor of Belford Roxo, Márcio Canella (União Brasil).
