According to investigators, the investigation identified evidence of influence peddling involving members of Rio de Janeiro’s politics and judiciary. The investigation brought together breaches of telephone and banking confidentiality to map the connections between those involved.
The case was referred to the Federal Supreme Court, which is now analyzing the procedural developments.
During the investigations, the judge of the Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region, Macário Judice Neto, was arrested. He, however, was not indicted due to the Organic Law of the Judiciary, which prevents this type of procedure in relation to members of the judiciary.
With the indictment, the Federal Police concludes the investigative phase and sends the report to the competent authorities for evaluation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will decide on any possible accusation.
