Caiado says he maintains his pre-candidacy for President despite Flávio's announcement

The governor of Goiás and pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), called President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) an “ambassador of factions” in an interview with Canal Livre, from TVBand. Caiado was interviewed alongside the other two PSD presidential candidates: the governors of Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul, Ratinho Júnior and Eduardo Leite, in a program that airs at 10 pm this Sunday.

“Instead of governing at this moment worried about Brazil, he is acting as a faction ambassador. So, this is the Brazil that has disenchanted the population”, stated Caiado.

Caiado said that Lula is silent in the fight against organized crime and that his “apathy” prevents the country from being able to tackle the issue. The governor of Goiás declared that Brazilians are “kidnapped by drug trafficking”.

Adopting the recurring electoral discourse, Caiado compared Lula’s administration with his in Goiás. According to the governor, there needs to be a direct confrontation, with strict monitoring of criminals and the end of what he classifies as “perks” for prisoners.

“You can’t govern without moral authority. You can’t govern without a person being able to get there, call the president of the Supreme Court, the president of the Chamber, the Senate and present the whole situation that Brazil is going through and say: ‘This problem isn’t just the president’s, it’s all of us,” said the pre-candidate for President.

Caiado also defended amnesty for those convicted of the acts of January 8, 2023. He said he will immediately pardon those involved in the attempted coup d’état. “This matter is over, let’s get to work,” he said.
