Caiado says he maintains his pre-candidacy for President despite Flávio's announcement

The former governor of Goiás and pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), signaled, this Saturday (25), convergence with other candidates opposing the federal government for the position and ruled out the idea of direct confrontation, indicating that the dispute should serve as a filter to define who will reach the second round more competitively.

The conciliatory tone towards other potential adversaries of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was presented during the opening ceremony of Expozebu, in Uberaba (MG), an event considered the main event for national livestock farming.

Decisive election

Caiado defended the 2026 election as decisive for the country’s political and economic direction. “I put my name forward. The party will have a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic”, he stated. “This is a year in which we have to elect those who believe in Brazil,” he said. “It’s not confrontation”, he stated, when defending that voters choose “who goes to the second round”. The speech was accompanied by Romeu Zema, pre-candidate for Novo.

The former governor also harshly criticized the federal government. “Are we going to be governed once again by those who stole the people’s future?” he asked. According to him, there is a “lack of perspective” that needs to be reversed. When dealing with the dispute, Caiado stated that governing requires more than electoral victory. “You don’t govern just by winning elections. You govern by example of life and the courage to do what is right”, he said.

Nods to agriculture

The speech also brought direct nods to the agricultural sector, in line with the pre-candidates’ strategy of getting closer to one of the most relevant economic bases in Brazil. Caiado once again defended the segment as central to Brazil. “Agribusiness is the sector that sustains our country,” he stated.

He connected the election to the economic agenda, criticizing recent measures. “They want to impoverish agribusiness and take away our ability to follow a government program,” he said. In the end, he reinforced the mobilization tone and designed the campaign. “We are going to win the election,” he said. “We are going to return Brazil to good Brazilians”, he added.
