Decisions on royalties must be made in collaboration with other Powers, says Gilmar
Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), said this Wednesday, 6th, that the solution to the controversy over the distribution of oil royalties must involve a dialogue between the Powers.
“We saw that we have a great challenge ahead of us in the face of an extremely complex issue for the federative pact. We need to reflect very carefully, and most likely we will have to create a model of collaborative jurisdiction, because this will also involve the Executive and the Legislative, as we have done in other cases of equal or even greater complexity”, he stated at the end of today’s Supreme Court session.
He also said that there are distortions in the current royalty distribution model and “municipalities that are receiving less could be receiving more”.

The Federal Supreme Court (STF) suspended the judgment of five lawsuits discussing the oil royalty distribution model. The analysis will resume this Thursday, 7th, with the vote of the rapporteur, Cármen Lúcia. On the afternoon of this Wednesday, the 6th, Cármen read a summary of the process and lawyers for the interested parties and entities presented oral arguments.
