TRF-2 monitors investigations into the disappearance of a judge in Rio
The disappearance of judge Alcides Martins Ribeiro Filho, whose whereabouts have been unknown for more than three weeks, mobilizes the high level of the Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region (TRF-2) and is closely monitored by the Civil Police of Rio. The case was revealed by columnist Lauro Jardim, from the newspaper The Globe.
The investigations are under the responsibility of the Whereabouts Discovery Department (DDPA) and are carried out under secrecy. According to specialized investigators, the disappearance was only officially reported to the police on April 27, almost two weeks after the magistrate’s disappearance.
— The investigation is ongoing. We were only notified on 04/27 about the disappearance. Throughout the week, further steps will be taken — informed the DDPA.
The magistrate was last seen on April 14th. According to investigations, that day he withdrew R$1,000 and boarded a taxi headed to Vista Chinesa, the city’s traditional viewpoint located in Floresta da Tijuca, in the late afternoon. Since then, there has been no further news about his whereabouts.
Behind the scenes at TRF-2, the case is treated with concern. The court’s Institutional Security Office (GSI) holds weekly meetings with Civil Police investigators to monitor the progress of the investigations.
In a statement, the court stated that it continues to monitor the case and maintains permanent contact with those responsible for the investigation.
— The TRF2 Institutional Security Office has maintained continuous contact with the police, who are investigating the case. We continue to monitor, with no news so far — informed the Court.
TRF-2 also reported that it provides psychological support to the judge’s family members.
To date, the Civil Police has not released details about the steps already taken or informed which lines of investigation are considered priorities.
