“It doesn’t occur to us to remove Flávio from the dispute”, says PL president

The national president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, stated this Monday (25) that it does not “cross his mind” for the party to remove senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) from the presidential race and that he would “be willing” to support the candidacy of Jair Bolsonaro’s son even if he already knew about his relationship with businessman Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master.

Valdemar said he held a meeting with Flávio to understand how he would respond to the case, after it was published on the website The Intercept Brazilof an audio in which the senator asks for money to finance the film “Dark Horse”, a production about his father’s story. According to the director, the presidential candidate stated that he sought out Vorcaro because he needed to raise funds for the film and had no other option.

“Yes, he would have agreed, because he had no option. He went looking for an alternative to be able to make his father’s film and he wasn’t able to raise money for it”, said Valdemar, in an interview with GloboNews. The party leader also stated that he did not know about Flávio’s request for money from the banker or the relationship between the two. “I was surprised,” he declared.

Valdemar stated that Flávio’s conduct was “natural” and “normal”, including the visit to Vorcaro, because the businessman had already helped him. According to him, the senator wanted to end the relationship and demand payment of the remaining amount, questioning whether Vorcaro would be able to pay it off. “What Flávio did is natural, it’s the most normal thing in the world”, he highlighted.

The president of the PL also said that he already expected electoral wear, but assessed that the impact was less than expected, since Flávio still appears, according to him, one or two points ahead of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), after a performance above expectations. On Friday (22), Datafolha pointed out Lula’s nine-point advantage in the first round and a technical tie in the second, with 47% for the PT member and 43% for Jair’s son.
