Former advisor to Mário Frias says she returned 76% of the amounts she received from the Chamber
The former advisor to federal deputy Mário Frias (PL-SP) Gardênia Morais stated that she transferred 76% of the amounts she received while serving in the Chamber to pay the expenses of the parliamentarian’s family, in addition to transfers to the then chief of staff and his relatives. The information was revealed by the portal g1 and confirmed by Globe. When contacted, Frias did not respond.
The amount transferred, according to her, reached R$180,100, and included loans, a series of transfers via Pix and payment of invoices. PSOL contacted the Ethics Council to investigate the suspicion of a “crack”.
Gardênia claims to have taken out five loans totaling R$174,886. According to her, only one of them, R$35 thousand, was used for personal expenses. The remainder, equivalent to R$139,886, would have been allocated, at the request of the deputy and the former chief of staff, to pay debts for the 2022 electoral campaign.
There is also R$40,900 in transfers via Pix to Frias’ mother, the then chief of staff, his ex-wife and a relative of the former advisor. A credit card bill of R$4,832 from Frias’ wife was also paid from the former advisor’s account.
Between February 2023 and June 2024, while she was working in the office, she received R$236,686.83 in salaries, allowances and compensation, in net amounts, according to a survey carried out based on data from the Chamber. In other words, the R$ 180.1 thousand transferred represent 76% of the amounts she earned in the period.
To the g1Gardênia stated that Frias was aware of the returns.

— The deputy was aware of all returns. It was an initial arrangement. The deputy always participates. Afterwards, day-to-day dealings took place with the (former) chief of staff, the deputy’s right-hand man — he said.
The records also show that Gardênia had successive salary increases during her time in office. Appointed parliamentary secretary in February 2023, she started receiving R$10,300 in salary and benefits. Over the course of around 15 months, he had at least five salary adjustments, receiving a total of R$26,600 in April 2024, adding up his net salary with any aid and compensation payments.
