Minister tells newspaper that Alcolumbre is open to rebuilding relationship with Lula
In an interview with the newspaper The Globethe Minister of Institutional Relations, José Guimarães, stated that the President of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), is willing to rebuild the relationship with the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Guimarães said that Alcolumbre should also not impose obstacles to move forward, by October, with the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) that ends the 6×1 scale and reduces the working day from 44 to 40 hours per week, without reducing wages. The government intends to use the agenda as a flag in the re-election campaign.
The minister said that the president of the Senate is open to dialogue. “He says, repeatedly: he wants to sit down with the president and rebuild the relationship. That’s it.”
Guimarães acknowledged to the newspaper that the president of the Senate played a role in the defeat of the Union’s attorney general, Jorge Messias, in the nomination to the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Even so, he said that the government “straightened up” after the setback.

After the approval of the end of the 6×1 scale in the Chamber, last Wednesday, Guimarães stated that the Senate should not hinder the processing of the proposal.
According to him, the president of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), has already spoken with Alcolumbre. “We’re going to talk. The way the text is, the ideal would be to take it straight to the plenary. It will depend on Davi, because the opposition wants to delay”, he said. “Hugo and I are working to seek a path that allows immediate voting, without delay in the Senate”, he added.
The minister also stated that the issue will be important in this year’s election. “We dealt a huge defeat to Bolsonarism. It is the issue that will weigh most from now on. More than 70% of the population is in favor.”
Regarding assessments that the end of the 6×1 scale could increase costs, Guimarães said that, in the view of critics, “everything the government does is electoral.”

US Decision on PCC and CV
In the minister’s assessment, the United States’ decision to classify CV and PCC as terrorists does not generate an electoral impact. For him, the measure is a threat to sovereignty. “No one can invade Brazil under the pretext of fighting organized crime. Why didn’t the American government include militiamen in this classification?”, he asked.
According to Guimarães, helping Brazil in the fight against factions is welcome, but respecting the rules and paths of the Brazilian government.

José Guimarães also said that, if he could define the Senate’s agenda until the election, he would prioritize the vote on critical minerals, the Security PEC and the end of the 6×1 scale, avoiding ‘bomb agendas’.
