Rapporteur indicates rejection of special rate for sanitation in tax reform
The rapporteur for the regulation of tax reform in the Chamber, Reginaldo Lopes (PT-MG), indicated this Sunday (15), that the House will reject the discount on the sanitation rate placed in the project by the Senate. He gave the statement to journalists after a meeting with other deputies involved in the discussions and with the secretary of the Ministry of Finance responsible for tax reform, Bernard Appy.
In the first vote on the project in the Chamber, a cashback mechanism was approved to return sanitation tax resources to poorer people. The Senate expanded the discount on this rate.
The deputy stated that this is a “delicate topic”, but indicated how the matter will be dealt with in the report. “We understand that cashback for sanitation is the best way”, he commented.

Reginaldo Lopes also said that the senators improved the 26.5% lock on the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate.

He also stated that he was optimistic about the possibilities of the rate being around 25% or 26%.
Appy, in turn, stated that “unfortunately” it is no longer possible to include firearms in the selective tax.
Representative Cláudio Cajado (PP-BA) said that it is likely that the vote on the proposal will be held on Tuesday (17). The group of deputies will take the discussions they had this Sunday to the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), to evaluate.
It will be necessary to talk to the bench leaders and, probably, talk to the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), about the matter.
