After 20 years apart, mother and son discover they worked together

The biological mother, who became pregnant as a teenager, exchanged letters and photos with her adoptive family for three years. When the adoption agency closed, contact was interrupted.

The unexpected reunion

Years later, Holly found her son’s profile on social media. “He was 18 years old and had so much going on in his life. The last thing I wanted was to get in the way. So I watched from afar,” he said.

In November 2021, she took courage and sent a birthday message on Facebook. Benjamin, who had previously tried to find her through records and DNA testing, was in shock. “When she explained who she was, I felt like I had been hit. It was a huge shock,” he recalled.

He cried with emotion. “This was the day I had been waiting for 20 years. It was a lot to take in,” he told Good Morning America.

The next day, the two planned a dinner with their families at a restaurant. “When I saw him, he touched my shoulder and joy took over. We hugged and cried for about five minutes,” said Holly.
