After attacking STF, Musk now rejects cooperating with investigation in France
The platform has announced that it refused to “access the X -recommendation algorithm and real -time data.”
The platform also argues that it would not collaborate in the face of the fact that the investigation is being based on accusations of organized crime. By the French law, this would allow the police to listen to X employees.
The argument of the French prosecutors was that there is a suspicion that the algorithms used by the musk tool tend to privilege the diffusion of racist, xenophobic and discriminatory messages. There is also an investigation into the fraudulent use of data from users of platform X.
If convicted, X executives could take up to 10 years in jail. The case broke out after the French deputy Eric Bothorel accused the platform of “manipulating his algorithm for ‘foreign interference’ purposes in the French elections.
The crisis reveals an unprecedented discomfort between the musk company and the French authorities. In his first term, Emmanuel Macron even invited Musk to meetings in Paris, hoping to attract billionaire investments.
But by the French law, the police can conduct search and seizure operations from now on. If the company’s headquarters in France choose not to cooperate, the company’s executives risk being arrested.
