After critical speech, Mamdani says he is eager to speak to Trump
Speech against Trump
New York’s new mayor used his victory speech to send a message to Trump. Speaking to his supporters in Brooklyn, he made a point of warning that America’s largest city will continue to protect its immigrants, attacked billionaires and said New York “will be the light in a time of political darkness.”
Mamdani suggested that it will be precisely from Trump’s hometown that the opposition will resist him. “If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it’s the city that raised him,” he said.
New York elected the 34-year-old politician yesterday, with 1,036,051 votes, which represents 50.4%. New York’s 111th mayor will take office on January 1, 2026.
Mamdani is the 1st Muslim mayor of NY. Already considered the favorite in the final stretch of the electoral campaign, the self-declared socialist was elected representative of the Democratic Party in the primaries and is a staunch opponent of US President Donald Trump.
