After cutting tariffs, Fávaro says Brazil is returning to “normality” with the USA

Brazil opened 300 markets for agricultural products in 2 years, says Carlos Fávaro

The Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, stated that the announcement of the reduction of tariffs on products such as coffee and meat by the United States, this Friday, should benefit Brazil, one of the main suppliers to the American market. For Fávaro, the measure confirms the resumption of normality in relations between Brasília and Washington, with the country returning to its “natural place”.

“What is Brazil? Who will supply coffee, açaí, bananas?”, asked the minister, in an interview with Globo.

He highlighted that the movement proves the abandonment of what he called “fake news” and “gossip against Brazil”. For the minister, this change is a direct result of the recent meeting between the presidents of the two countries.

“Do divergences exist? Do they exist. Do divergences still need to be expected? Of course they do. But they will be dealt with without fake news, for the good of Brazil.”

Fávaro stated that relations between Brazil and the USA have returned to normal, following the meeting, two weeks ago, between presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Donald Trump, in Malaysia. He acknowledged that there are several outstanding points, but said he was optimistic.

“From the moment the two leaders, the two presidents met, good diplomacy was established. The friendship between Brazil and the USA, for more than 200 years, is there and the consequence of this is the return to normality”, he stated.
