After pressure, USA hopes to sign a mineral agreement with Ukraine this week
Zelenskiy realized “that we did a lot (through Ukraine) … and I think you will see it (the agreement) signed this week,” continued Witkoff.
Zelenskiy had already rejected US demands of $ 500 billion in Ukraine’s mineral riches to pay Washington for help during the war, saying the US had not supplied even this amount.
“The deal will be signed,” Bessent said in an interview with Fox News on Sunday, adding that he was “hopeful” that this would happen next week.
The Ukrainian president’s chief of staff said on Sunday that the next round of negotiations with the United States about an agreement will continue.
Trump has been pressured for an agreement to end the war in Ukraine and made separate calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Zelenskiy earlier this month.
Trump’s main authorities recently met with his Russian colleagues in Saudi Arabia in conversations that did not include Ukraine.
