Alckmin criticizes Dosimetry PL: 'It slows down for the powerful'

Vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) criticized, on Friday night, the 12th, the approval of the Dosimetry Bill, stating that the measure sends the message of softening penalties for the most powerful while maintaining harsher punishments for the poorest population. The statement was made upon arrival at the Grupo Prerrogativas party, which was also attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT).

“It reinforces a feeling in public opinion that, when it’s a simpler person, it’s tough. But, for white-collar crime, for the most powerful, it slows down. It’s not a good example,” said the vice president.

The Chamber of Deputies approved in the early hours of Wednesday, 10th, the bill that reduces the sentences of those involved in the coup acts of January 8th. The text, which could benefit former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), was approved by 291 votes to 148.

Now, the Dosimetry PL is under analysis by the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) of the Senate. The rapporteur of the proposal, senator Esperidião Amin (PP-SC), is expected to present his opinion next Wednesday, the 17th, and has already signaled the possibility of reinserting the amnesty in the report.

Alckmin also commented on the United States’ decision to lift sanctions against Federal Supreme Court (STF) minister Alexandre de Moraes. For the vice president, the measure was fair. “It is a very important and fair decision, because no one can be punished for performing their duty, which is the duty of a Supreme Court minister. It was an important measure by the American government, an act of justice and a recognition of the work of the Brazilian Supreme Court”, he stated.
