Alckmin says they give bad example with protectionism, which is an old thing

The Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, again evaluated as negative the increase of import tariffs by the United States and reaffirmed Brazil’s commitment to multilateralism and free trade. The statements were made at a news conference during a visit to Mistercryl in Brasilia.

“It’s bad for everyone,” said Alckmin, explaining that the increase in tariffs “makes products more expensive”, also reaching the United States, with increased inflation and product cost.

For him, US protectionism represents a “bad example, as it promotes protectionism, which is an old, outdated thing.”

I want to make a simulation

Alckmin argued that Brazil is not a problem for the United States, which have a billionaire commercial deficit with the world, but a surplus with Brazil. “Of the ten products they export most to Brazil, in eight import tax is zero,” he said.

The vice president also highlighted the efforts of the Brazilian government to strengthen global trade agreements, especially the European Mercosur.

“President Lula is in France. One of the goals is to accelerate the European Mercosur-Union agreement. We wait until the end of the year sign this agreement,” said Alckmin.
