The former Minister of Defense, Aldo Rebelosaid on Friday (6) that defense bodies of indigenous peoples and the environment, as well as institutions such as the Supreme Court and the Public Prosecution Service, generate blockages to Brazilian productive activity in agribusiness.

In a lecture at the Gafff Agribusiness event, the current Municipal Secretary of International Relations in São Paulo said that “withdrawing the blockade from Ibama, Funai, Public Prosecution Service, Judiciary” would help the country’s future.

“The blockade of logistics and infrastructure is part of the blockade of productive activity. These corporations decided to block the entire infrastructure in the country,” he said. Rebelo also stated that the prosecutor “must have all the power to combat corruption. To stop the country, no.”

He also stated that the agency “fulfills the role of legal arm of NGOs”, without explaining how.

In the panel that gathered other figures close to agribusiness, panelists attributed a “war of narratives” on topics such as environmental defense in the sector, where European countries and cooperation organisms such as the UN would be involved.

The Director of International Relations of the National Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA), Sueme Mori Andrade, argued that there would be misunderstanding of bodies such as the United Nations (UN) and its arm for food and agriculture, FAO, on production in tropical environments.

“What we want to do at CNA is to enter these institutions and show what our real agriculture is and trying to influence who influences.”

The advisor to the Brazilian Association of Agribusiness (Abag) and Cosag/Fiesp, Christian Lohbauer, said there is a “very European, anti-Brazil” speech. “Being European, we have to focus it on an aspect that the biggest Brazilian problems, in particular in agriculture, are created by Brazilians themselves.” In this, it cites the availability of data from the Brazilian government itself that can serve as a contestation by foreigners.
