Almost 200 Brazilians live in Iran; Itamaraty does not report on repatriation
“We are evaluating the possibility of taking them to some border,” said Brazilian representative of the embassy. According to him, the agency is budgeting means of transportation for the displacement of the group. “It is a long displacement. (…) At this time, the most viable option would be to go out on the border of Azerbaijan,” he added.
Brazilians report tension during waiting for help in Iran. One of them is Antonio Guerra Peixe, who arrived in the country in April to help train the adult Iranian sand handball federation without imagining that shortly after, he would be surprised by Israel’s attack. “We were at Tehran airport, ready to board, when I heard a half -far blast. (…) started a certain stir in the lobby and then our flight was canceled. From that moment so far it was just downhill,” he told the BBC.
I speak with the Brazilian embassy daily, they are being very kind and helpful, but every day I feel that it is risky to stay here. It is taking too long for us to be removed. Antônio Guerra Peixe, in an interview with BBC
Asked on different occasions, Itamaraty did not respond about plan for Brazilians in Iran. In a note sent yesterday to Facto News, the ministry only reported that it remains in contact with the Brazilian community in Iran and that last week updated a consular alert to the Middle East, with recommendations to Brazilians in the region.
Itamaraty recommended that Brazilians avoid traveling to Iran, Israel and other regions of the Middle East, such as Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria. In the case of Brazilians who are already in these countries, there are other recommendations. These include: leaving home only if there is security condition; Avoid crowds; monitor local media; Keep travel documentation up to date.
Brazilian authorities in Israel
Plan to evacuate 27 Brazilian authorities from Israel by land worked, according to Itamaraty. At the invitation of the Israeli government, two Brazilians traveled to the country in June, even with a consular alert issued by the Brazilian Embassy in Tel Aviv. With the beginning of the attacks and the closure of Israeli airspace, the authorities were arrested in the country and managed to leave Jordan. The landing in Brazil should be this Wednesday.
