Amnesty points to arrests of activists and “state of exception” in El Salvador
Amnesty International said, on Tuesday (1st), two human rights lawyers and an evangelical pastor arrested in May and accused of various crimes such as “prisoners of conscience” in El Salvador.
The lawyers are Ruth López, head of the NGO Cristosal Anti -Corruption Unit, and Alejandro Henríquez, while the pastor is the environmentalist and leader peasant José Ángel Pérez.
“These arrests are not isolated incidents. They are part of a systematic pattern of criminalization that seeks to silence those who denounce abuse, require justice and transparency in public administration,” Amnesty International said in a statement on the X network.
