Andreza: Trump will spare efforts to retaliate, if Brazil decides to act
Last Friday (27), the US government sent a plane with 88 Brazilian repatriars in an initiative of Trump that determined the zero tolerance policy to immigrants who live illegally in the US. The flight faced problems and had to stop in Manaus, before reaching Belo Horizonte, its final destination.
In Manaus, the Federal Police identified that Brazilians were handcuffed and chained. The situation was informed to Lula on Saturday morning (25), who publicly complained about the situation and accused a break against the Trump government. The president then determined the immediate removal of the handcuffs and the sending of a FAB plane to take Brazilians to Belo Horizonte.
For Andreza, the diplomatic moment between the two countries is delicate.
It’s a very delicate moment to scratch a floor line and say ‘what you accept and what you don’t accept’, because now we are dealing with a problem that has already occurred. So the Brazilian government will have to think of this meeting there, which has several ministers.
It is very complicated to say what the government will do, but I imagine the government has to take action. And that it will not accept that this is repeated, because we will see now and waves of Brazilians being deported because they entered illegally in the United States. The Trump government claimed to have arrested 538 people who entered the country irregularly and deported “hundreds” on army planes, just four days after taking office. The numbers, however, do not differ much from the statistics of the previous government led by Democrat Joe Biden, which accounted for 170,000 arrests by 2023, an average of 467 per day.
