Announced at Secom, Sidônio Palmeira talks about “evolving in the digital area” of communication
The publicist Sidônio Palmeirawho will take over the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic next week, said that it is necessary for the government to evolve in the digital part of communication.
He made the statement alongside his predecessor, Paulo Pimenta (PT)at Palácio do Planalto. According to the future head of Secom, his management is a kind of “second half” – in the sense that it is not necessary to start everything from scratch.
“There is also an observation in the digital part, some say that it is analogue, I think we need to evolve in this”, stated Sidônio. “It is a second half that we are starting, not the first half”, he declared.

Sidônio also mentioned that he comes from the private sector, and that he has never worked in a government. “It’s a new, interesting experience, it’s a great challenge. I will hold myself accountable, communication is a very interesting business for a government”, he said. Sidônio also stated that he will do his utmost to maintain the government’s transparency.
Lula hits the hammer and decides to exchange Pimenta for Sidônio Palmeira in charge of Secom
Lula and Paulo Pimenta had a conversation this Tuesday morning (7), at Palácio do Planalto. It is not yet known what the new role of the future former minister of Secom will be.
The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) decided to change the management of Secom because he believes that his government has a large number of works and good social programs, but that communication problems prevent this from translating into popularity with the electorate. The scenario is worrying because the president needs to be on the rise in the 2026 elections to be re-elected or promote the candidacy of a successor.
Paulo Pimenta’s resignation has been awaited in Brasília for at least a month. On December 6 last year, the president said in public that there were problems in the government’s communication and that he would make the “necessary corrections”. The entire political world understood the declaration as a kind of open warning to Pimenta. At the same time, Lula was negotiating Sidônio’s entry into federal management.
Secom employees had already been warned that they would be fired since Monday (6). That day, Sidônio took Thiago César, who will be his executive secretary, and Paulo Brito, who will be his future chief of staff, to Planalto. The movement made it clear that the change was imminent and that the current occupants of these positions would be dismissed.
