At the Celac summit, Lula defends union of countries and criticizes high tariffs

The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, defended the union between Latin American and Caribbean countries in his speech at the Celac Summit in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and, without quoting the United States, criticized the discharge of the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump. “Arbitrary tariffs destabilize international economy and raise price. The story teaches us that commercial wars have no winners,” he said.

The event brings together representatives from the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Latin America and the Caribbean today face one of the most critical moments in history. We have made a long way to consolidate our emancipation ideals,” said Lula.

The president argued that the performance of the region “should not only be oriented by defensive interests” and that a program of action is needed on other topics, such as defending democracy and combating climate change. “It is imperative that Latin America and the Caribbean redefine its place in the new global order that of unlocking,” he said.

The speech of the chief executive goes in line with the investigation of the Broadcast (Real -Time New Time News System) Last week that Lula would take advantage of the event in Honduras to try to widen the Americas to expand trade with each other after Donald Trump’s tariff.

Presidents of Mexico and Cuba also defend the union of countries

“Hope today is the unit,” said Mexico president Claudia Sheinbaum, who also defended more economic integration and respect for the sovereignty of the groups of the group.

Cuba President Miguel Díaz-Canel was in the same line.

“At a time when the world lives a climb of tensions, with increasing war conflicts and deepening inequalities is crucial to unite efforts and work together for the well-being, peace and security of the Latin American and Caribbean people,” he said. “Only unity can save us.”
