Avian flu: Brazilian chicken export is suspended to 9 destinations

Exports of Brazilian chicken and derivatives are suspended for nine destinations, after confirmation of a case of commercial farm in Rio Grande do Sul. The export of Brazilian poultry products to China, European Union, Canada, South Africa, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico and South Korea, according to the South Ministry of Agriculture, are temporarily suspended.

The list includes countries that have suspended imports of poultry products in Brazil and for which Brazil interrupted the certification of exports as provided for the sanitary agreement established with each country.

The ministry reported on Sunday, 18, that Brazil has stopped certifying exports throughout the Brazilian territory to China, European Union, Canada and South Africa, as predicted by the agreed sanitary protocols between Brazil and these countries. Already Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico and South Korea communicated the suspension of imports of poultry products across the country, according to the ministry.

In addition to the suspensions of poultry product exports across the Brazilian territory for these nine destinations, chicken meat sales and derivatives from the municipality of Montenegro (RS), where the focus of the disease was detected, are suspended to Japan. The regionalization of restrictions is foreseen in the agreed sanitary certificate between Brazil and Japan, according to the ministry.

According to the Ministry, authorities of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Philippines have not yet spoken about the status of commercial flow. Brazil has regionalization agreements of embargoes in case of avian flu with these three countries. With the United Arab Emirates and the Philippines, the agreed sanitary protocols provide for the restriction of exports only from the disease affected by the disease. The total suspension of Brazilian and temporary shipments was already expected by the Brazilian government.
