Between Zelensky and Trump, Francisco’s last miracle?
On Friday, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow for three hours to discuss Washington’s peace proposal. Trump said “most main points were agreed” in a post. He asked for a meeting between Kiev and Moscow’s leadership to sign a ceasefire agreement, which he said he was “very close.”
His message on Saturday, however, was an attack on American journalists and against the idea that Ukraine should recover her entire territory.
On social networks, the Ukrainian said that meeting with Trump at the Vatican “has the potential to become historical.” “Good meeting. We discussed a lot, one by one. Waiting results in everything we approach. Protect the lives of our people. Total and unconditional ceasefire,” wrote the Ukrainian.
“Reliable and lasting peace that will avoid the beginning of another war. Very symbolic meeting that has the potential to become historical if we achieve joint results. Thank you @potus,” he added in reference to the US President.
Trump, in turn, signaled on social networks on Saturday that the idea of returning all the territory that Ukraine lost as a condition for an agreement would be impractical.
“No matter what agreement I make with Russia/Ukraine, no matter how good it is, even if it is the best agreement ever made, the failed New York Times will speak badly,” Trump wrote. The president attacked journalist Peter Baker, who “wrote that Ukraine should recover the territory, including, suppose, Crimea, and other ridiculous requests, in order to stop the killing that is worse than anything since World War II.
