BNDES and institutions will create a carbon credit certifier, says Mercadante

BNDES is joining a large national bank and other institutions in creating a carbon certification body.

As revealed exclusively to Estadão/Broadcast by the president of the public institution, Aloizio Mercadante, the announcement will be made next Tuesday, 11th, in a parallel event during the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP-30).

For Mercadante, the certification is of enormous importance because “you cannot compare a hectare of Amazon forest with a hectare of pine, as they want in this market”.

Take your business to the next level with the country’s top entrepreneurs!

He recalls that biodiversity in the tropical forest is much greater and argues that restoration with native plants preserves biodiversity that is fundamental for the future of humanity.

“It is important both for pharmacological research, for food and for the environmental services that the forest provides to society”, he states. “The certification is a tough dispute with the countries of the North”, he adds.
