The court rejected this case, arguing that it should be a special trial, as the events occurred while he held the highest position in the country.

The most serious incidents were recorded in the town of Sacaba, in the department of Cochabamba (center), and in the neighborhood of Senkata, in the city of El Alto (west).

David Inca, a member of a victims’ organization, announced this Wednesday that they will present an indictment to the new Congress to begin a political trial against Añez.

However, he expressed doubts about the new Parliament that will begin its functions in the coming days, as it will be dominated by three right-wing and center-right parties: the Christian Democratic Party, led by elected president Rodrigo Paz; Libre, by former president Jorge Quiroga; and Unity, by millionaire Samuel Doria Medina.

Senator Branko Marinkovic, from Libre and former minister of Áñez, celebrated the court decision. “We welcome with hope the freedom of former president Áñez, her release symbolizes the end of a stage of abuse,” he stated.
