Bolsonaro calls for ‘acoustic insulation’ to end air conditioning noise

Jair Bolsonaro’s defense complained about noises from air conditioning equipment installed near the room in which the former president is imprisoned and asked Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), that the space be modified to guarantee some form of acoustic insulation.

Bolsonaro’s lawyers claim that the device presents “continuous and permanent noise” that generates an environment “incompatible with the minimum rest necessary to maintain the physical and psychological conditions of the person in custody”.

The equipment, according to the lawyers, is installed “immediately next to the room’s window, which does not have an adequate seal”.

The former president’s defense says that these conditions constitute “a situation that goes beyond mere discomfort and begins to characterize continuous disturbance to the health and integrity of the prisoner”.

Lawyers also state that it is the State’s duty to ensure that custody is carried out in “dignified and humane” conditions.

The petition, filed this Friday, is signed by lawyers Celso Vilardi, Paulo Amador Cunha Bueno, Daniel Tesser and Gabriel Domingues.

“This is not, therefore, a claim of a subjective nature or of mere comfort, but rather an objective and necessary measure to preserve the physical and mental integrity of the person in custody, in strict compliance with the constitutional and legal commands in force”, says the petition.

In the document, the former president’s defense asks that the necessary technical measures be adopted to overcome the problem, whether through “suitability of equipment, acoustic insulation, change of layout or other equivalent solution”, in order to guarantee Bolsonaro what they classify as “adequate conditions for rest and stay in the place”.

Bolsonaro has been imprisoned in a Federal Police superintendence room in Brasília since November 22, where he is serving a sentence of 27 years and three months in prison for attempted coup d’état and four other crimes.

This Thursday, the former president was discharged from hospital and returned to the PF superintendence, after being admitted to undergo surgery to correct a bilateral inguinal hernia and having undergone other procedures.
