Bolsonaro goes to hospital and leaves house arrest for the first time after conviction
Former President Jair Bolsonaro arrived on Sunday morning to a hospital to perform skin surgery authorized by Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (STF). This is the first time that the president has left his residence since the conviction at 27 years and 3 months in prison for involvement in the coup plot.
Bolsonaro arrived at DF Star Hospital in Brasilia, escorted by the Penal Police by determination of Moraes. The President has been in house arrest since August 4, when the minister pointed out that the former president failed to comply with restrictions such as the prohibition of social networks.
Surgery to remove skin lesions was authorized by the magistrate after sending a medical report indicating “expertise and hemangioma, lymphangioma or nevus suture”. The reason described was the formation of a melanocytic nevo on the trunk (a spot) and an uncertain behavior neoplasia – a tumor that can be benign or evil.
After surgery, Bolsonaro must present to the Supreme, within 48 hours of completion of the procedure, the certificate of attendance to the hospital, informing the date and hours of care. At the request of Moraes, the vehicles that left Bolsonaro’s residence were inspected.
The former president arrived at the hospital accompanied by his sons Carlos Bolsonaro, councilor of Rio de Janeiro, and Jair Renan, councilman of Balneário Camboriú, according to CNN. About 50 supporters were waiting for him at the entrance.
The last time Bolsonaro had left the house arrest was on August 16. Last Thursday (11), the first class of the Federal Supreme Court sentenced the president to 27 years and 3 months in prison for participation in the attempted coup in the 2022 elections.
