The former president was hospitalized on the 13th, with bilateral bacterial bronchopneumonia, resulting from an episode of bronchoaspiration, when contents from the digestive tract, such as food or secretions, enter the respiratory tract, which can cause infection in the lungs. He arrived at the ICU with water in his lungs, due to aspiration of liquid from his stomach, due to the frequent hiccups he presents.

This Saturday, the 21st, Bolsonaro turned 71 years old, amid pressure to transfer him to house arrest. He received congratulations and messages from family and supporters at the hospital door. Imprisoned since January in the 19th Military Police Battalion of the Federal District, Papudinha, Bolsonaro is serving a sentence of 27 years and three months in prison for attempting a coup d’état to remain in power after the 2022 elections.

According to the Estadãointerlocutors of Alexandre de Moraes, from the Federal Supreme Court (STF), assess that the minister is inclined to transfer Jair Bolsonaro to house arrest. He would be taking into account the former president’s precarious health condition. However, there is no prediction of when the measure would be taken.

On Tuesday, the 17th, Moraes received senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), son of the former president, to talk about the request for house arrest. The parliamentarian expressed concern about the possible worsening of Bolsonaro’s health if he was kept in the Papuda Penitentiary.

On the same day, the former president’s defense made a new request for house arrest. The lawyers’ previous request was denied by the minister on the 2nd.
